I Miss Her lots. My name is Jarod and I would like to tell you all about my cat, Smudge, who sadly passed away on tuesday 22nd April 2008. She went quite suddenly and she is missed by us all. She wasn't a very sociable cat and didn't like people or other cats and I was the only one that she liked to fuss her. She liked me to tickle her behind the ears and really hated it if anybody touched her back paws. Here's my story of Smudge.... |

We found Smudge by accident at Ashbourne Animal Welfare one day when we
were looking to adopt a dog. We were convinced that she was the cat that my Uncle David used to own before he passed away. Dad phoned them up
and we went to Ashbourne to see her on 5th January 2005. When we saw her we were convinced especially as she was quite happy for
Daddy to pick her up. The lady there told us that she didn't think Smudge had a happy time before she went to The Ark. Smudge had been put up for adoption as, the old peoples home where she had been living had stopped allowing cat litter trays and Smudge wouldn't go outside for her number 1's and 2's. Whilst smudge was at the Ark, she had an operation on her throat and had to have most of her teeth out. Daddy gave The Ark a donation and I took Smudge home. |
|
| We also bought a cat carrier from The Ark as well as a litter tray and food bowl. She wasn't happy and cried all the way home. Once we got home, we let her out of the carrier and she ran upstairs and hid under Mummy and Daddy's bed and wouldn't come out! My mum woke up in the middle of the night to find Smudge sitting on her chest sniffing at her face!! |

When Mummy got up the next day, all her eyes were red as she was allergic to cats but Mummy said that there was no way we were going to give her up now. So Smudge was banned from going in their bedroom. | |
| It didn't take long for Smudge to settle down and get used to her surroundings. Mummy and Daddy first bought her Whiskers
cat food but she didn't like it. Eventually they found that she liked the Tesco Pouches but they had to be mashed up as Smudge only had 4 teeth
left. Daddy bought a cat flap and put it into the back door so she could go out if she wanted. One time Smudge was outside arguing with another cat and Daddy threw a cup of water over what he thought was the other cat. Unfortunately, when Smudge came in she was all wet! Daddy had thrown water on the wrong cat! Poor Smudge... |

I hadn't had Smudge very long before Daddy had to take her to the Vets. She had a poorly eye and the vet gave her some eye cream
that Daddy had to put in her eye twice a day for a week. She was a very good cat and never bit or clawed Daddy even though she didn't like
having it done. She also had her injections and she wasn't really happy about that either!!! This photo looks funny, but Smudge is actually having a yawn. |
|
| Usually, Smudge would just sit and chill. One of her favourite places was on a blanket in the windowsill. Then one day something strange happened. Daddy put Smudge into her cat carrier and let her out in a small room with her blanket, food and a litter tray. Smudge was very upset and cried alot. |

We had moved house and Smudge was moved first. After Mummy and Daddy had moved all the furniture, I let Smudge out. She
was really unhappy and hid behind Daddy's computer desk and wouldn't come out. Smudge isn't very happy in this picture as we put a collar on her. The thing is, by this time we had another cat and bought a cat flap with a magnetic key. Smudge really hated the collar and Daddy took it off her in the end. |
|
| Smudge is here with Pounce, our other cat. She absolutely hated him and beat him up at every opportunity. The thing is, as Pounce grew up, he got to be really big and started to win the fights. Eventually he would sit and watch Smudge having her hissy fit. Then the fighting stopped and Smudge started to tolerate him. Probably because she couldn't beat him up any more. | ![]() |

We got up one morning and Smudge was very poorly. Unfortunately she died whilst we were waiting for the Vet's to open.
Daddy took Smudge to the vets who confirmed that she had died. Daddy arranged for them to have Smudge cremated and mummy bought
a Cherry Tree for us to plant for her. We planted it next to the gap in the hedge that she used to use when she went out. Smudge "Grumpypaws" Edwards. |
